Departmental Info

Department of Science Education was established on July 15, 1982 under the law numbered 2547. Higher Education Council (YÖK) dated November 4, 1997 and numbered 97.39.2761 reorganized the curriculum of the Faculty of Education with the decision of the Executive Board Council. Thus, the Department of Science Education changed its name to the Department of Secondary School Science and Mathematics Education. The names of the programs of the Department of Secondary School Science and Mathematics Education have become Integrated B.S. and M.S. Programs in Teaching Chemistry, Teaching Physics, and Teaching Mathematics (Yıldıran, 2011; p.346). With the announcement dated 18.04.2014, the Council of Higher Education has decided to change the education period of secondary science and mathematics teacher education programs from 5 years to 4 years at 2014-2015 (YÖK, 2014) so that the name of Department of Secondary School Science and Mathematics Education has been changed to Department of Mathematics and Science Education. Today, the Department of Mathematics and Science Education consists of five programs. The names of the undergraduate programs have become Science Education, Primary Mathematics Education, Physics Education, Chemistry Education, and Secondary Mathematics Education.
